In these trying times, people are spending more time in their homes than ever. Because of this, you may have noticed some problems in your home. Perhaps a leaking pipe or even that your air conditioner is blowing hot air. Even though it is uncomfortable to have hot air blown into your home, especially on a hot day, that is just one of the problems.

If your ac blows hot air, have it checked immediately, as it may pollute your home’s indoor air quality, which can lead to harmful side effects. As an AC that blows hot air is not suitable for your health. So why is your AC blowing warm air?

Today we will look at the possible problem and see what you should do to fix it. Of course, it is always best to contact professional HVAC technicians to inspect more thoroughly and repair your AC unit.

Thermostat Not Set Correctly

It may come as a shock, but sometimes the reason why an air conditioner is blowing hot air is that we have the thermostat at an incorrect setting. So before checking anything else, be sure to see if you have the thermostat on the cool setting rather than the heat setting.

Of course, there is a possibility that the thermostat is faulty. If that is the case, an HVAC maintenance specialist will be able to fix the problem quickly. If this is not the problem, then continue going through the issues listed in the article.

Refrigerant is Leaking

If your ac is blowing hot air, then the refrigerant may be the problem since it is responsible for removing heat from your home’s air. It is easy to know if your AC’s refrigerant is leaking, as ice will begin to form around your AC unit. The reason a refrigerant begins to leaks varies, but it usually is due to heavy use and no maintenance.

It is best to have an HVAC technician to change your refrigerant, as it can be harmful to your skin if the liquid touches you. An HVAC technician has the tools needed to change the refrigerant safely. And to avoid that your ac is blowing hot air again, have it serviced at least twice a year.

Compressor Issues

The heart of an AC unit is the compressor, as it handles the circulation of the refrigerant. As you can imagine, a faulty compressor will lead an AC to blow hot air. It becomes faulty if the condenser coils are dirty, blocked suction lines, or low refrigerant.

As the compressor is deep inside the AC unit, it is best to contact your local HVAC maintenance specialist. They will be able to diagnose if your compressor can be fixed or needs parts repaired. And the same as the refrigerant, you should have it checked at least twice a year.

Filters Need Change

The purpose of the filter is to prevent smoke, pollen, dust, grease, and microspores. So if your air conditioner is blowing hot air, your filter may be ready for cleaning or change. This is especially true if you have never changed the filters before or the AC is being heavily used.

The good news is that washing or changing the filter is a simple task. Just be sure to dry the filter before putting it back and to buy the correct filter for your AC. And you should perform this sort of maintenance at least once a month.

Condenser Problems

The condenser is the exterior part of your AC that either releases or receives heat. Several things may cause a condenser to begin to fail, all of which lead to your AC blowing hot air. It can be from algae or dust build-up on the condenser coil.

Or another common problem is excessive foliage and bushes surrounding the condenser unit. And it may even be that the condenser unit has electrical issues. If you suspect that is the problem, contact an HVAC technician as they will be better prepared to fix it.

Air Ducts Are Clogged or Dirty

It may not be easy to know if your air ducts are clogged or dirty as they are on the inside of your walls. But if your ac blows hot air and the problem is not with the AC unit, it is most likely the air ducts. It’s critical to clean your air ducts as a dirty air duct can cause many health problems, especially if there is standing water.

In order to wash the air ducts, you will need to contact an HVAC maintenance company. They will have the proper equipment to clean the air ducts efficiently and will also be able to provide the best results. It would be best to have your air ducts cleaned at least once every three to five years.

Electrical Problems

If you think that the above mentioned is all in optimal conditions. But your ac is blowing hot air, then it may be an electrical problem. To see if that is the problem, try to see if the outside AC unit (condenser) turns on. If it doesn’t, then it may not be receiving enough electricity.

It is best first to call an HVAC technician so they can properly diagnose the problem. If it is an electrical problem, they will either fix it themselves or contact an electrician. The problem may be coming from your electrical wiring, so don’t try to fix it yourself!
