Did you know that air conditioners use 6% of the electricity that is produced in the United States each year?

Air conditioners are a staple of life in the United States, especially in areas with hot and oppressive summer weather. It’s hard to top the feeling of walking into an air-conditioned building after being out in the sun all day.

But what happens when your AC fan is not working? How will you keep your home and your family cool? Keep reading to learn more about the 3 most common AC fan issues and what to do about them.

Reasons Your AC Fan Is Not Working

If you have air conditioning at your home, it is possible that someday you will encounter a situation where your AC is running but the fan isn’t working and cold air isn’t being emitted.

Knowing the causes of these issues can help you get to the bottom of the issue, and if necessary, find an AC repair company to resolve the issue and get your AC working again. Here are some common issues to be aware of:

Capacitor Issues

The capacitor is a cylinder component that sends signals to turn on the power and AC fans within the AC unit. AC units have multiple capacitors. There is one that controls the power of the AC unit and another that keeps it running.

If your AC fan is not turning on it is possible that one of your capacitors has gone bad and needs repairs or replacement.

If the AC fan is not working, check your thermostat settings and the circuit switches. If it is still not working after that, your best bet is to get it looked at by a certified air conditioning technician.

Burnt-Out AC Fan Motor

Another reason that your AC may be running but the fan isn’t working is due to a burnt-out AC fan motor. This results from a lack of maintenance as well as general wear and tear from usage.

Regular maintenance is important for the longevity of your AC unit. 40% of AC units that are regularly serviced and maintained have a significant lifespan difference when compared to those that aren’t serviced on a consistent basis.

Unfortunately, AC fan motors can be expensive to replace. If you find yourself in a situation where your AC fan motor has burnt-out, you should consider getting an entirely new AC system.

Blocked Air Filter

Blocked air filters are common with air conditioning units. A blocked air filter prevents proper airflow within the AC unit. This causes ice buildup to occur inside of the unit.

Ice buildup within the AC unit puts additional stress on the AC cooler fan and the AC condenser fan, which leads to the AC fan not turning on.

In order to repair this issue, you will need a replacement air filter. If, after replacing the old air filter, your AC fan is not working you should reach out to an AC repair company for further diagnosis.

Are You Having Issues With Your AC Fan?

There are multiple reasons that your AC fan is not working or turning on. Regular maintenance can help prevent these issues, but you can help by staying on top of inspecting your AC unit.

Whether it’s a blocked air filter or burnt-out AC fans, no one wants to be stuck without air conditioning on a hot summer day. Knowing what you can do to fix these issues can go a long way toward keeping you cool and saving you money.

If your AC fan is not working after attempts to troubleshoot the issue, reach out to an AC repair and replacement expert. Set up an appointment today and make your AC problems go away.
